2013 Greenspace Report

This summer, Lilac Street continued its second year as an active Greenspace group. The group comprises of few adults and several neighborhood teenagers and children who are led by a young, enthusiastic woman whose primary focus is to beautify the neighborhood and engage the community. For its second year, the group focused on stewardship of two trees that were planted last year, along with perennials that were planted under the tree beds and shrubs and perennials that were planted in a circular garden in the vacant lot. By the end of the summer, the group was able to perform lead remediation in two front yards, carry out stewardship of existing perennials and trees, plant additional perennials and engage the neighborhood children in outdoor activities.

2013 Accomplishments

  • 16 shrubs planted (Hydrangea (1), Azalea (1), Holly (2), Andromeda (2), Weigelia (6), Boxwood (2), and Euonymus (2))
  • 33 perennials planted (Yarrow (4), Daylily (14), Coral bells (4), Hosta (10), Selvia (1))
  • 1.5 yards compost spread
