Summary

The Shephard Street Greenspace group is an emeritus group that continues stewardship of the beautiful garden that was once a vacant lot. The group is led by the only adult in the group, a dedicated and enthusiastic group leader, Jody Kelly. She along with her granddaughter and the neighborhood children are the caretakers of this garden. In this garden dotted with fruit trees, butterfly bush and evergreen shrubs, the children get opportunity to come close to nature, to explore the hidden world beneath the soil, and learn from jody who takes every opportunity to show the children different features of the park and the famous apple tree. The diversity of projects done in the park ranging from mulching the flower beds to weeding the garden and planting day lilies and ivy provided an opportunity for the children to work together as a group, to take turns in doing different chores and to learn new skills of planting and stewardship of the garden.
