Summary

At this stage in its life, Wolcott and Lloyd is past the period of large plantings or infrastructure installation. That does not mean that there is not work to be done. This summer, prior years’ work was carefully maintained and diligently edited by Gwen Heath. Every Saturday, Gwen would go over to the garden and faithfully complete the less glamourous, but ultimately necessary stewardship jobs of watering, mowing, pruning, weeding, and picking up trash. The group was not all stewardship, though! They were able to plant Red Yarrow, Shasta Daisies, Hostas, and some Black-Eyed Susans to fill the site to the brim with color and fragrance. As it moves through the 21st Century and is it is looked after by volunteers like Gwen, Wolcott and Lloyd provides a strong exemplar for what community greenspaces can be.
