Summary
The Morris Cove Planters Greenspace group in the East Shore has been part of URI's Greenspace program for four years. Work in this community began with maintaining the Pardee Seawall Park and has expanded to include street tree plantings in the neighborhood. The core members of the group are committed neighbors who come together through their work in the Greenspace program as well as the district management team. This summer the group dedicated themselves to maintaining the plantings in the Pardee Seawall Park, planting a permanent community holiday tree, and planting street trees on Dean Street to increase the canopy coverage in East Shore and provide screening from the neighboring airport. In total, the group planted 6 red maples on Dean St., 1 understory dogwood on Mansion St., and a small 'Fat Albert' blue spruce in the park. The group also planted a bank of 16 low growing junipers in the back corner of the park in an ongoing effort to combat invasives and provide greater visibility into the somewhat hidden back corner.
