Summary
This was the Green Hills Garden Club’s 2nd year participating in the Community Greenspace program. To continue the work done last summer, and in an effort to control the speed and aggressiveness of vehicular traffic through their neighborhood, the group chose to focus their efforts this summer on streetscape plantings. These plantings concentrated on the stretch of Green Hill Terrace located between Fairfield Street and Lawncrest Road, and were punctuated by the planting of two new street trees and accompanying perennial gardens. The group’s decision was to focus on flowering understory trees, allowing them to fill in spaces between existing trees and introduce new elements of color to the neighborhood. In future years, the Garden Club hopes to continue its focus on streetscape improvements (including new curbing and trash infrastructure) in an ongoing effort to beautify the neighborhood and reduce the speed of vehicular traffic.
