Summary
The vision for the Mechanic St. Arboretum began almost 10 years ago when a group of community members saw potential for a greenspace in a vacant lot. Today, it is a leafy, peaceful pocket by Blake Field. With a lush tree canopy and only plant species native to Connecticut, the Arboretum serves as a cool outdoor classroom for East Rock Elementary School and a quiet respite for the neighborhood. Community members have carved rock-lined paths, built stone benches and planted blueberry bushes and understory shrubs.
