Summary
The Rock Creek Greenspace group first formed in 2001 to prevent dumping on a privately owned corner lot at the end of a short cul-du-sac off of Rock Creek Rd. by West Rock. The group dismantled the remains of a derelict house, removed old mattresses, furniture and appliances, graded the site and planted grass, trees and perennials. Today, The group looks after basic maintenance of the site, which remains a beautiful natural enclave in this quiet neighborhood. The Atlas Cedars at its center make it particularly beautiful in the winter time. This year, the group rallied with the largest workdays in recent years. They mowed the site, weeded the perennial beds, spread mulch and planted a small fragrant herb garden along the fence by the road.
