Summary
The Friends of Russo Park began in 2003 to enhance a rectangular green strip running north-south between Chapel Street to Wooster Street along DePalma Ct. It is the site of the CitySeed Wooster Square Farmers Market. Over the past 5 years, volunteers have installed four perennial beds, a stone dust pathway and many trees & shrubs along a row of mature white pines on the eastern border of the park. This summer, they met at 9am every Saturday to weed, mulch and plant. The team planted hydrangeas and shrubs along the fence line and built a new bed of Hostas and Viburnum on the South end to give a soft edge to the park and direct pedestrians towards the path. Thanks to a Parks Dept irrigation system, the plantings are thriving even in the driest summer days.
