Summary
Now in its 17th year as a URI greenspace group, Blockwatch 303 continues to do a beautiful job stewarding Beecher Park and two corner gardens in Westville: Chapel & Yale and Blake St & Whalley Avenue. Kate and Bob Bradley led the effort to maintain these greenspaces, coming out for six URI workdays and putting in many additional hours throughout the spring and summer. The group replaced two dead trees with a saucer magnolia and a horse chestnut in Beecher Park. They also replaced a lost rhododendron in the garden on the corner of Chapel & Yale. One Westville resident donated a dozen hostas from her yard to be transplanted along the fence in the Mitchell Library parking lot. Volunteers worked through rainy days to distribute compost and mulch throughout the park just in time for the Beecher Park Summer Concert Series beginning in mid-July.
