2017 Greenspace Report

Hannah Gray is a brand-new group this year that is focused around the Hannah Gray home; whose mission is to provide supportive living conditions for low-income elderly individuals. The team is headed up by Charlie, one of the cooks for the home. Charlie is popular amongst the residents of Hannah Gray, and was a great figure to build a greenspace team around. Our work this year focused on what we affectionately called the “box”. It is a massive concrete box just outside the fence and along the sidewalk in front of the home. Charlie and I set a goal to plant up, and clean up, the box so that those who hang out sitting on its edge could enjoy a humble greenspace in an otherwise impervious parking lot. The occupants of the Hannah Gray home were super enthusiastic about the work we were doing outside in the box, and the few times we actually worked, a small group of residents would come outside to hang out. We had good success planting up the box this year, and met our goal of filling the box with colorful perennials. Additionally, we almost were able to put a tree in adjacent to the home next door to Hannah Gray, which indicates there is interest in both homes to put in trees for next year. Hannah Gray is a great little greenspace group, and their humble beginnings will surely lead to some more lovely greenspaces in the future.
