Summary
The Friends of Jocelyn Square are truly remarkable people. This was their second season as a greenspace group, and they have met and exceeded URI's primary objectives of community building, environmental restoration, and stewardship. Beyond designated work times, you could find group leader Kev Darnell picking up trash, watering plants, or weeding flower beds daily. The group's dedication goes above and beyond. Together, we worked to transform the Walnut St. side of the park, laying over 9 yards of mulch and planting 52 perennials to create Jocelyn Square Garden. In addition to general stewardship, we planted over 500 bulbs and removed 50 one-yard waste bags of tree and plant debris. These activities were filled with laughter, engaging conversations, and the forging of new friendships. Occasionally, curious children from the playground would join us, and we'd give them gloves to help out as well. Thanks to all of the group’s dedication and hard work, Jocelyn Square Park has been completely transformed. The park is safer and more beautiful than ever, and the friendships made along the way will last a lifetime.
