2025 Greenspace Report
After years of contention between neighbors and developers, the Friends of Kensington Playground won a resolution to keep the space as a shaded space for everyone to enjoy. This summer got off to a slow start while a new sidewalk was built in the park. Once this finished work took off on creating a new caterpillar garden to accompany the butterfly garden made last year. Inspired by the Very Hungry Caterpillar children's book, the garden bed features 18 perennial flowers planted in segments, a stone head that will be painted, and brick antennae and outline. Under Jane’s incredible leadership, the park has improved meteorically during recent years with its new additions by the group and the City should be installing a new playground soon. Every Friday afternoon I could always count on Anh, Jane, and Olivia to be engaged in stewarding the park they all love and we were always surrounded by residents of the neighborhood enjoying the shade of the park's canopy. Since the community saved this park from development, it has continued to grow and improve each year under the care of this phenomenal group of volunteers.
