Summary

The Westville group formed towards the end of the Greenspace planting season, and came together for one major tree planting under the leadership of Jessica Feinleib. The neighborhood had received trees from URI in the past through GreenSkills (high school intern program), a community planting the previous summer, and, earlier this summer, an intern tree-planting training at the intersection of McKinley and Willard. However, the community tree planting at the end of this summer was unique in that it involved neighbors from different blocks who had never worked together before and was an excellent exhibit of the community-building capacity of Greenspace work. <br> Although the community only planted four trees this summer, this neighborhood has many future opportunities for planting street trees and great potential as a Greenspace. Although it appears that the distance between houses leads to neighbors not being as socially close as in denser neighborhoods, the way various community members helped each other during this tree planting showed that this community will quickly come together to beautify their neighborhood.
