Summary
The Newhall and Division group is a bunch of all-star tree planters and community volunteers. The group truly embodies the Greenspace spirit. There was always a large group of people eagerly awaiting to begin planting on our Wednesday work days. Most volunteers came every single week, all summer long. The group does a great job of working together, engaging the current Greenspace participants, as well as welcoming new members to the program. A lot of young children also come out and are very helpful, and the workdays really are community gatherings. Originally started in 1997, the group has gone back and forth between active and emeritus status. To say the group was active in 2016 would be an understatement. This summer the group planted 9 trees and remediated lead in one front yard. They also did extensive stewardship, mulching, pruning, and weeding along yards and curb strips where previous work had been done. They also hosted the pruning workshop. This is a dedicated group that will continue to do great work for Newhallville.
