Summary
The Urban Oasis site at Wintergreen Brook was stewarded over the spring and summer seasons by groups of Common Ground High School students under the leadership of their environmental science teacher. Not only did they learn about ecology, water quality, and species inventories from their studies, but they also built a new set of stairs to allow safer water access, and removed countless invasives. With the URI crew of high school students, we also planted two American Holly trees at the oasis site, five Christmas ferns, and re-mulched most of the existing trail, refreshing the area which is becoming a truly lovely, shady retreat.
