Summary

The Arch street block watch began its partnership with URI in 1995, making it one of the oldest Greenspaces in New Haven. Many people have contributed to the transformation of this vacant lot into a community park throughout the years. This year, the group focused on maintenance and visibility. They were able to achieve many goals including painting the iconic fence, pruning overgrown shrubs and plants, removing dead trees, and adding mulch and pea stone. The Common Ground High School youth provided valuable support in reaching these goals. The group also planted perennials, picked up trash and mowed the grass. Importantly, community members from the Hill saw that this group is stewarding the park, which resonated with the spirit of community vitality.
