Summary

For decades, the Cedar Hill Greenspace group has been advocating for improving their neighborhood Led by Betty Thompson and her family, the group has contributed tirelessly to maintaining the beauty of their streets and ensuring residents’ safety. There are three mini Greenspaces: Betty’s Median, the Rock and Grace garden, and the 219 garden. Though small, these little patches of greenery brighten up the Cedar Hill neighborhood and are tangible representations of Betty’s inspirational passion for her community. Asides from maintaining the existing gardens, this summer the group planted a gorgeous Cherry tree by Rice Field in memory of Rebecca Turcio, Betty’s partner-in-crime for community advocacy. Additionally, the neighborhood children painted the sandwich board and a bookshelf that Kenya and Friends of East Rock Park built, both of which are colorful new additions to the playground.
