Summary
The Chatham Square group is proud to be the longest-running group in the history of the URI Community Greenspace program and have been participating since the program's inception approximately 15 years ago. As such, the group runs incredibly smoothly. The group is established to the point that they now separate out plantings from previous years in Chatham Square to replant in curb strips throughout the neighborhood. They are the ultimate self-sufficient group. This year, the group met to weed the central garden of Chatham Square, to plant the missing gaps of the pattern of trees in the park, to plant in curb strips and old plant boxes in the neighborhood, as well to work on planting up Lewis Street Park. The splash pad at Lewis Street Park was opened by the mayor this summer, and a number of shrubs and perennials along with a katsuka tree were planted in preparation. In other exciting news, Chatham Square Park had a spigot put in by the New Haven Parks Department - a long awaited and much-appreciated addition to the park that will allow for better stewardship within the park.
