Summary
Under the leadership of Mr. Michael Maynard, the neighbors of Henry Street work hard to maintain an attractive block between Dixwell Avenue and Orchard Street. Though the group has a number of adult volunteers, the most hard-working volunteers are the many kids ranging in age from 5-18. This was the Group's third year of meeting weekly to build community, plant trees and improve the appearance of the streetscape. Volunteers planted trees, picked up trash, and weeded around the trees, shrubs and front yard beds planted in prior years. This year, the group also traveled further afield, planting 3 trees at the south end of Townsend St. and picking up trash in the "Hot Spot" at the corner of Dixwell. Lieutenant Anthony Duff, the NHPD District Manager of the Dixwell neighborhood, as well as several officers from the Dixwell Substation were an active presence throughout the summer.
