Summary
Integrated Refugee and Immigration Services (IRIS) is a non-profit agency established in Connecticut whose mission is to help refugees and displaced people establish new lives, strengthen hope and contribute to the vitality of Connecticut’s communities. During this summer, led by Greenspace Manager, we educated the group on the importance of nature, trees and climate change, planted three trees, cut back knotweed and cleaned the area behind Wilbur Cross High School, near the Mill River in two workdays. Prior to the 2 workdays, URI staff supported the group in getting comfortable in New Haven’s natural areas by taking them on a hike around East Rock Park in small groups, alternating while the other half of the group kayaked in the Mill River.
