Summary

2010 was Liberty Square's first year as a group in URI's Greenspace program; as such, they were extremely productive. The members of this housing co-operative came together primarily for reasons of beautification, but through the Greenspace Program they have begun to transform the entire look and feel of the Liberty streetscape. The core members of the Liberty Square group committed themselves to tree, shrub, and perennial plantings twice a week for eight weeks. During this time, they planted 7 new trees along with an impressive amount of foundational plantings. Many of these shrubs and perennials were selected for their compact form, their hardiness, as well as, their visual appeal. Despite the large amount of initial plantings, Liberty Square has intentions of expanding their group and completing the transformation they have begun.
