Summary

This summer the Liberty Square group focused on stewarding previous plantings in the front of its complex as well as beautifying a its garden area on the Union Ave side of the complex. Originally an asymmetrical arrangement of Yew bushes, this tight-knit group of neighbors transformed the space on Union Ave. into a beautiful garden area by planting one multi-stem dogwood, and one slow growing buckeye chestnut as well as a number of roses and perennials. The group started out slow working on weeding, mulching, and perennial plantings, and built energy and momentum to plant a tremendous number of perennials in addition to 2 trees. They not only beautified their complex, but also build community as neighbors laughed and joked while mixing compost, soil, and putting plants in the ground.
