Summary

Having planted more than 40 trees over the first four years of their work, in its 5th year Monitor Square group chose to become emeritus and to focus on stewardship and maintenance. John Fitzpatrick and Robin Arenberg met every Saturday to weed, water, mulch, and sometimes - plant perennials in bare spots or where previous plantings did not survive. They also planted perennials around trees that did not have them yet. At the end of the season, together with Frank Minja, the group leaders planted a beautiful garden of flowering perennials next to the 'Welcome to West River' sign at the North-East corner of Ella T. Grasso Blvd and Derby Ave.
