Summary

The Friends of Monitor Square has been actively improving this monument park since 2009. Last year, due to declining participation, the group became an emeritus group and focused on stewardship of previous years' plantings. Like last year, the group that currently comprises of two committed volunteers met on Saturdays to spread compost and mulch on existing tree beds and flower beds. John and Robin, the two volunteers of Friends of Monitor Square met on their own time on Saturdays and requested for resources such as compost and mulch as they needed. The group worked with Common Grounds student crew to plant a hawthorn tree. In addition they also planted a boxwood and four dianthus in the corner garden at the intersection of Derby Ave. and Winthrop Ave.
