Summary

This was the second year that St. Martin de Porres was a member of URI's Greenspace program. The previous year, the school's students focused mainly on planting street trees along Cedar Street. This year, the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students planted two more trees along Cedar Street to complete the streetscape. They also added six large legacy trees for additional shade within the school's playground. During the final weeks of the summer the 4th and 5th grade students amended the soil in front of the school building and planted a garden of shrubs and perennials all the while maintaining and watering the previous year's trees. The students of St. Martin de Porres will work to include the surrounding neighborhood into their summer Greenspace program and hope to plant many more trees in the years to come.
