Summary
Wooster Square is one of New Haven's four historic, traditional style New England squares. In the early 1970's, inspired by the cherry trees planted along Hughes Place during a redevelopment project, Deb Townsend and other Wooster Square residents including Bev Carbonella and Dick Mazon raised money and instigated the planting of cherry trees along the periphery of the square. These trees surround a forested park, chris-crossed by many walking paths radiating from a central plaque dedicated to General David Wooster. It is a popular place for people to walk dogs, exercise, relax, and eat pizza from Wooster Street and pastries from the CitySeed Farmers' Market. This year the group decided to plant three new ornamental trees in the park and one new tree on Court Street.
