Summary

The Friends of East Rock Park has been partnering with the Youth at Work program to work with local youth to maintain and care for East Rock Park, and provide a meaningful outdoor work experience for the youth. This year the Friends of East Rock Park community members, along with the Youth at Work and URI, completely cleared the weeds and opened sight lines around three benches beside Rice Field. Along Rice field a stone stairway had previously been put in, and the Youth at Work and community members planted 36 perennials and 5 bushes beside the path. The engagement of the young members of the community provides inspiration and a lesson on what can be accomplished with consistent effort.
