Summary
CROSSROADS., began working with the URI Greenspace Program in 2001. Crossroads is a residential substance abuse treatment center on East Ramsdell St. that serves as an alternative to incarceration for individuals charged with drug offenses. Over the last 8 years, men from Crossroads have planted about 30 trees and hundreds of perennials along East Ramsdell, Valley, South Genesee and Harper Streets. The group also has planted trees along the banks of the West River and replaced the invasive Japanese Knotweed with native shrubs. This year, Greenspace also worked weekly with a group of women. The group planted 4 street trees and designed and installed a large perennial bed around the Crossroads sign.
