2012 Greenspace Report

The volunteers from Crossroads made a big impact in the surrounding community this summer. They performed stewardship on trees up and down East Ramsdell Street and on the trees planted last year along the fence next to the McConaughy Terraces. The guys also did a great job cleaning up the basketball court in the park they frequent. During this workday the removed some of the invasive knotweed, picked up several bags of trash, and pruned some trees. The men of Crossroads also helped to plant 2 trees in a curb strip per the housing project manager's request. They had to work hard to dig out the compacted rocky soil that had been parked on for many years and successfully planted 2 crabapple trees there. In doing so, cars can no longer park on the curb strip and hopefully grass will be able to grow again there in the future. To finish out the summer the guys helped to chop down 4 dead trees in South Genesee Park. 1 was cut flush to the ground while the other 3 were removed roots and all. After removing these trees, they replaced them with new, healthy trees to help add green to the park. Their new trees will also provide shade to the children and others who are playing on the playground and on the basketball court.
