Summary

Crossroads is a residential rehabilitation facility for those who are recovering from drug addiction. Each year several of the clients elect to participate in a volunteer program with the Greenspace initiative. These volunteers work towards the environmental restoration and stewardship of the surrounding neighborhood. This year the participants worked on stewardship of existing street trees as well as the planting of a few new trees. In addition, they worked hard to remove invasive knotweed from the bank of the West River, allowing the native plants underneath to grow and therefore improving habitat diversity as well as visibility and water quality. Towards the end of the season, they also worked to clear and improve an existing trail through the Pond Lily Nature Preserve, a property managed by the New Haven Land Trust. This trail extends from East Ramsdell Street to the Pond Lily Dam on the West River.
