Summary
This summer, Friends of East Rock Park volunteers and Youth @ Work employees worked hard over many weeks to weed the large garden bed behind the Trowbridge Environmental Center and spread several yards of mulch over the area to suppress new weed growth. The group also installed a series of educational plaques throughout the Orange Street bed that provide park-goers with interesting facts about several of the native plantings in the bed. Perhaps the biggest highlight of the summer was planting two new Amelanchier trees at the top of the College Woods entrance to the park with the help of the Youth @ Work crew. Between a core group of dedicated volunteers and help from the Youth @ Work team during the month of July, Friends of East Rock Park was able to accomplish their stewardship and planting goals and had fun doing so!
