Summary
This was the first year the Friends of Edgewood Park group has been officially in the Greenspace program. The group was founded years ago and has functioned as a robust organization with many members. Edgewood Park is bordered by Whalley Ave., West Rock Ave., West Park Ave., Yale Ave., Chapel St., Edgewood Ave, and Ella T. Grasso Blvd. This summer the group focused its activities on the southern and northern ends of the park along Chapel St. and Whalley Ave. with the stewardship of the existing trees by the ranger station and mulching of the flower beds by the gazebo near Coogan Pavilion and the staking and mulching of nine trees to protect them from lawn mowers. The group continued its work through the fall planting 30+ fruit trees and doing a major landscaping project around the gazebo.
