Summary

The Friends of Farmington Canal had another successful summer. Group leader Doreen recruited a cohort of 8 youth volunteers to participate in weekly workdays. Working together, the group was able to weed the site’s Urban Oasis, plant new hostas underneath several trees on site, and begin the creation of a natural wall of green velvet boxwood shrubs along the Shelton Avenue side of the property to add some color and texture to the otherwise empty strip along that sidewalk. The group also weeded the small garden beds on either side of the Farmington Canal Trail arches so that they can be properly enjoyed by all who pass by.
