Summary
Farmington Canal’s Urban Oasis is a true success story for the Newhallville community. The space was once known as the ‘mudhole’ for the traffic of drugs in the area. Hard-working Doreen Abubakar has done so much over the years to redeem this space. There is a lovely native plant strip with educational signage, and a number of gorgeous trees, benches and tables, and even amenities like a one-stop-bike-fixing-station. This season, Doreen hired the four young interns Khalif, Jalin, Randall, and Tyshaun to work with Greenspace to steward the Urban Oasis. These young men were a blast to work with. They prioritized different areas of Oasis to bring more plants and color too. Working closely together, we maintained the Oasis this season and had the joy of involving passerbyers and other neighbors in this beautifying work.
