Summary

This year marks the Hallock & Congress group's second year in the Greenspace program. When the group began last year, Hallock Street was almost entirely treeless. Last year, the group removed concrete and created space for nine new trees on the street, making a dramatic impact on the look and feel of the street. This year, the group continued with their goals from last year, since there was space on the street for 28 more trees. In July, Hallock & Congress removed concrete and planted three new trees on the street, which will provide shade and aesthetic appeal for years to come. Neighbors on the block, particularly youth, came out to help remove concrete and plant trees and perennials. The group also conducted lead testing in front yards, to prepare for lead remediation and environmental restoration using foundational plantings. Hallock & Congress looks forward to continuing their revitalization of Hallock Street through the Greenspace program next season.
