2026 Greenspace Report

Mariposas del Mundo (Hemingway Butterfly Garden) is a beautiful native pollinator garden located in Fair Haven Heights. This Greenspace group began in 2020 with the initiative of creating a native habitat that would support and enhance the life cycle of Monarch and Swallowtail butterflies. Since then, it has become so much more. Under the leadership of Kat Calhoun and a small group of dedicated butterfly enthusiasts, the group has transformed this former dumping site into an educational oasis. Over the years, the group has fervently stewarded their plantings and expanded their greenspace by adding new garden beds, paths, and educational signs. This year the group continued stewardship work and added plantings along the creek to fight knotweed and added to their garden beds at the front of the lot. Thanks to the love and dedication of this Greenspace group, Mariposas del Mundo is a thriving native habitat and educational sanctuary that people, plants, and pollinators alike can enjoy!

• 6 shrubs planted (1 male inkberry, 1 male winterberry, 4 elderberry )
• 20 perennials planted (6 cardinal flowers, 2 ostrich fern, 5 Christmas fern, 5 purple rain Jacob's ladder, and 2 little bluestem grass )
• 0.5 yards compost spread
• 9 events
• 13 volunteers
• 99 volunteer hours
