Summary
The Mill River Greenspace group entered its second year of establishment of with a clear goal: connect residents of both East Rock and Fair Haven to the Mill River and develop a new appreciation for New Haven’s natural resources. The group is led by three enthusiastic volunteers who strive to make this vision come to life. Early in the season, the group began removing Japanese knotweed and other invasive weeds from the Urban Oasis area behind Radiall and Grand Paint before moving to planting. Thanks to two workdays with heavy contributions from Common Ground high school students, the group was able to plant 9 trees and 27 shrubs this season in addition to spreading 4 cubic yards of mulch and laying the plans for the Mill River Trail construction to begin in 2017.
