Summary
The Mill River Trail is a key gateway to the waterfront for residents of Fair Haven and this group stewardship efforts stretch along each segment of the trail. While their maintenance work was divided along the entire trail, we focused on planting at the section by District. There, we planted 1 witch hazel and 4 trees from containers: a pin oak, an american hornbeam, and two serviceberries along the steep riverbank in the hopes that their roots will help reduce erosion and, once established, they will shade out the pervasive invasive knotweed. We finished the summer by adding soil and mulch to tree rings from past years to slow their erosion. The years of dedicated efforts this group has poured into the trail have paid off and the trail only continue to improve for wildlife and riverside visitors.
