Summary
This is Quinnipiac River Park's first year as a Greenspace Group. Hurricane Irene and Hurricane Sandy left a path of destruction through the waterfront park in 2011 and 2012. Most of the mature trees were knocked over or torn up during the hurricanes, leaving several large open spaces. This year the group had a strong start by planting eight new shade trees along the roadside and waterfront creating diversity and shade for the community to enjoy. Additionally, the group decided to mulch and plant perennials underneath twelve trees throughout the park. Overall, the group has made a tangible difference in the park towards creating a peaceful garden space to enjoy.
