Summary

The Greenspace group at Quinnipiac River Park was formed in 2014 in effort to replant trees in the park after a hurricane destroyed most of the park’s mature trees. These were mostly pear trees bordering the upper walkway. In previous years the group has put an extensive amount of time and energy into tree planting. This year however, the group decided to concentrate mostly on stewardship of the existing trees, on planting up a pollinator garden near the middle entrance to the park, and on maintenance. Together in 2017, they laid 2 yards of stone dust to revitalize an erosion-worn walking trail, planted 39 perennials in the pollinator garden and various donut holes, and weeded, mulched, and pruned. Midway through the concept of planting a memorial tree with a neighbor was proposed, and this lovely new project was embraced and realized by the group as a whole.
