Summary

The Friends of Quinnipiac River Park accomplished a lot this year, they planted two more memorial trees and added twenty-five perennials to their pollinator garden. They steward a large area, and that’s ok because they have a lot of energy, passion, and drive to reclaim and restore their neighborhood through environmental restoration. This year’s constituency resembled the snowball effect: Their group nearly doubled in size each week. By the end of this year’s program, there were not enough shovels as hands were reaching form them, and that’s a good problem to have. It exemplifies their ability to meet and exceed the three programmatic goals of Urban Resources Initiative’s Greenspace program: community, restoration, and stewardship. This group of volunteers demonstrated dedication to their community, passion for their environment, and embracement of their leader’s vision for the park’s environmental restoration.
