Summary

In their first year in the Greenspace program, the Shelter St. Group created an amazing transformation in their neighborhood. Located between Clay St. and Grand Ave. in Fair Haven, this narrow avenue of picturesque houses is home to many families and children. This tight-knit community is lead by three strong women who really know how to get things done. They began the summer with a focus on with street trees and flowers for the curb strips. Altogether, the Shelter St. group added 5 trees and dozens of perennials to their streetscape. They then did lead testing and remediation through planting in 5 front yards. The workdays have a festive atmosphere and always include a number of children pitching in to help the adults beautify their street.
