Summary

The Huntington and Shepard group with tremendous dynamism, energy and commitment, has over the summer transformed a previously abandoned greenspace into 'oasis of peace' as described by one visitor in this neighborhood in Newhallville. This group weeded, pruned, mulched, planted, painted, seeded and raked, breathing life and vigor into the physical space of this lot. They created a recreation area for the community by spreading topsoil and growing new grass. Children planted the grass that they will soon play upon. They painted a mural covering a 75 foot fence in two days. They rejuvenated and added to the garden area to be admired by local passerby's. Most importantly however, their work this summer was truly a community effort with every one from the neighborhood kids to local figurehead, Ms. Johnson, working hard to bring beauty onto their block.
