Summary

Community members formed the SoHu (South of Humphrey) block watch association in August 2007. They first worked with URI and students from Common Ground in October of 2007 helping to plant street trees on Pleasant Street. The SoHu blockwatch association decided to apply for the 2008 Community Greenspace grant with the aim of planting more trees throughout their East Rock neighborhood. SoHu has a large number of committed people and a high level of enthusiasm. In their first year, they reached a new record of the highest number of trees planted in one summer by one Greenspace group. The SoHu volunteers planted 44 trees, including breaking up 18 concrete slabs to create new tree pits!
