For over seven years, Nikki Little and her family have transformed the former abandoned lot on Washington Ave. into a beautiful greenspace filled with rose bushes, dappled shade, and lovely trees. This year, with the help of relatives, friends, neighbors the garden blossomed even more. Ivan, Nikki’s son, took charge of workdays, demonstrating exceptional leadership. Ivan created a plan for the garden and made sure to ask his family what they wanted to add to the space as well. Maintenance procedures included stone dust upkeep with a scuffle hoe, extensive weeding, and bed edging. They also refined their pruning techniques for shrubs and trees. The transformation of 630 Washington Avenue showcases how community efforts can quickly revitalize abandoned spaces with a little time and care. The Little family has helped their community to create a vibrant garden that enhances the neighborhood's beauty and fosters a sense of community pride. Folks from around the neighborhood came to compliment the garden and wanted to get more involved, showing the importance of this space to the Hill community.
