2022 Greenspace Report

Esmeralda greenspace is a beautiful oasis in the Fair Haven neighborhood. Adeli is a community champion who works extremely hard to keep the space looking at its best. Adeli helped to build the garden up from a vacant lot and abandoned house foundation. She continues to steward it with her family. Adeli spent time weeding the circular stone path as well as weeding and mulching the surrounding garden beds. Adeli is an independent leader making Esmeralda space a significant self-sustaining Emeritus site.

Adeli and Greenspace Intern, Molly, met to plan out summer goals for Esmeralda Park. The park provides a nice cool spot to spend time on hot summer days. Adeli's goals include weeding, path maintenance and spreading mulch in areas of the park. It was amazing to reflect on how the park started out - as the lot of a torn down house. Many years of hard work have helped make it into the relaxing space it is today. Esmeralda is looking for volunteers, short-term or long-term to get involved in helping. At the Saltonstall and Lloyd garden we came up for a maintenance plan and decided to prioritize some minor infrastructural changes that need to be made, including at the garden's entrance.

We worked with the high school interns to weed alongside the pebble path, weed the garden beds, removed dead branches from the oak trees and shrubs, and fluff up the mulch layer around the garden. The space has clearly had much love pumped into it over the years, but is happy with a bit of a touch-up!
