As a long-standing symbol of peace, endorsed by the United Nations, the West River Peace Garden serves as a bridge that connects peace efforts abroad to combating violence within New Haven. Aaron, Frank, and I had our first meeting of the summer to discuss their goals for beautifying the Peace Garden. They would like to revitalize the planters, remove poison ivy, add new flowers around the sign, and plant a magnolia tree. With an affinity for butterflies, Aaron and Frank would love to plant a variety of native flowers and create a safe haven for pollinators. The group will be meeting every Friday from 9:00-11:00am. Volunteers are welcome, come out and help us honor this special greenspace! |
