2024 Greenspace Report

The Solar Youth Camp, organized by Common Ground in New Haven, is an enriching summer program designed to engage young people in environmental education and sustainability practices. Through hands-on activities and interactive learning, participants explore topics such as solar energy, renewable resources, and ecological stewardship. The camp aims to empower youth with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to a more sustainable future, fostering a deep connection to the environment and a commitment to eco-friendly practices. This summer, Solar Youth partnered with the Urban Resources Initiative (URI) to undertake significant environmental restoration projects in New Haven. Together, they cleared knotweed overgrowth in Edgewood Park, a critical effort to manage invasive species and promote native biodiversity. Additionally, the partnership involved planting trees along the West River, enhancing wetland habitat, and restoring canopy cover in the park. These collaborative projects provided camp participants with valuable hands-on experience in ecological restoration and community service, reinforcing the importance of teamwork and environmental stewardship.
