2022 Greenspace Report
Shelton Avenue is a vacant lot that has only joined URI in recent years and is currently transitioning to become a Parks site. The group this summer was small but tight-knit, and they worked throughout the summer to diversify the plantings around the site. This involved adding a variety of flowering perennials to the existing front right side of the lot, opening up space along the left side (by the adjoining apartment), and creating a new “shade flowerbed” in the front left corner with shrubs, grasses, and ferns.
- 6 shrubs planted (2 boxwood, 1 rhododendron, 1 hydrangea, 1 azalea, 1 wintercreeper)
- 53 perennials planted (3 hakonechloa, 6 Black-eyed Susans, 3 speedwell, 8 coneflowers, 8 daylilies, 4 amsonias, 6 hostas, 4 daisies, 3 ferns, 7 coral bells)
- 2.5 yards mulch spread
- 8 events
- 7 volunteers
- 43 volunteer hours
