This was the last work day of the group and we had two more volunteers join us. Everyone defied the rains and continued stewardship at the park; mulching, weeding, watering and planting of eight daylilies around trees.
Being the last work day for the group , the pouring rain couldn't deter the group who continued with planting around several areas in the park to give the park a new look. Shrubs and perennials were planted. Weeding and watering were also carried out to ensure the plants received adequate water.
The group planted a lot of perennials, carried out lots more weeding especially outside the fence area, watering and mulching were also done extensively.
This was the last day for the group and they focused on planting perennials and mulching around the trees. The heavy rains and thunderstorm made the work to last for only an hour. It was also nice to have a new volunteer with the group.
The group was joined by two additional volunteers and some shrubs were planted along the urban oasis. Weeding, mulching and watering were also carried out.
The group planted a Crab Apple tree to replace the second peer tree lost during the storm in the winter. It was very interesting exercise as the third tree was planted in the park this summer. Weeding was also carried out inside and outside the park.
This was a landmark day as Fellowship place crew joined the growing list of volunteers in the park to plant another red maple tree. There will be much more engagement with Fellowship place to keep the park in good shape.
The group planted a Red maple tree in the park, this was one of the trees selected to replace the peer tree that was lost through a storm. It was an interesting experience for the new volunteers who joined the group.
The group worked on maintenance activities such as watering, weeding and mulching. Two children joined the group and helped put mulch and water the plants.
More weeding was accomplished within the Betty's Median by the group , extensive mulching of the median and watering was also carried out. Two youths from the neighborhood join the group on this work day
The group engaged in edging along the Urban oasis, mulching , watering , weeding and also three nine barks were planted. Planning was also carried out to review plans for planting in the space.
The group planted a new Cherry tree on the Division end of the Farmington canal, they also continued to weed and prune around trees in the neighborhood.
Today's workday was very interesting because a team of volunteers came in to join the group. A lot of weeding was carried out, especially along the wire fence which was covered with so much vines. Watering was also carried out by the group.
This was basically an evening of out reach to the neighborhood through a door to door flier distribution. It was also an opportunity to try and make connections to people living around the park.
The group started out with maintenance work along Newhall Street- pruning trees, and weeding along the side walk. Some perennials were also planted around trees on the curb strip. Planning for the entire summer was discussed and maintenance was a key priority for the group.
This was basically a planning meeting with the group. We touched on key issues that needed to be addressed to help the park recover from loosing two of its large trees to a storm. This was very important because of the changing dynamics expected due to the opening of the park to direct sunlight after the removal of two large peer trees.
This was the first meeting with the group for planning the summer activities. The group also carried out watering and weeding along the Urban oasis site.
